The Ketogenic Diet - Time to see what the fuss is about

For many years, the words "Kept diet" have sprung up in conversation every now and then, but for one reason or another, I have never looked into it properly


I have had a strong focus on my health this year, increasing my fitness levels and giving my body more of what it needs, and less of what it doesn't! I feel healthier than ever, but there are certainly some improvements that can be made! :D


Now, how does this link with the Keto diet? Well, it's something that has been niggling at the back of my mind for a while, I have some stubborn fat I would like to shift, and in order for me to share correct information and my opinion with clients, I like to be research and be able to offer a personal account based on experience... if that makes sense?


I have done my fair share of yo-yo and extreme diets in the past, and of course now I know that these never work, and are likely to do more harm than good, so I have been researching into this way of eating before committing!




So, what IS the Ketogenic diet?

Well, essentially, it is a high fat (natural fat preferably), moderate protein and low carbohydrate diet. It is based on research showing that once the body has used it's glucose stores for energy, it moves onto fat, causing the body to enter a state of ketosis, and this state provides a far more healing energy to the body, as well as burning fat! Historically, this diet has been used to treat various medical conditions, including diabetes, with great success.



There are several modifications of the diet that you can look into, to find which one may best suit you, but I will be initially aiming for a diet consisting of 70% healthy fat, 25% protein and 5% carbs.


I will be keeping you updated weekly on my progress and how I am finding the diet :) I started this Monday 9th September, and found the first day surprisingly easy, day 2 is going well too! I know from experience that I lose fat best on a low carb diet, so I'm excited to see the results, alongside my increased fitness regime! :D
